There’s something especially meaningful about getting to photograph a young woman you’ve watched grow up—and that’s exactly what made Lily’s senior session so close to my heart. Lily is not only a Class of 2024 senior at Millard West High School—she’s also my cousin Carolyn’s daughter and a friend of my own daughter. Being trusted to document such a huge milestone for someone I’ve known for years? That’s the kind of thing that reminds me why I love this job.

As a senior photographer based just outside Omaha, I work with high school seniors from across Nebraska and Iowa to create portrait sessions that are anything but cookie-cutter. These photos should feel like you—your interests, your energy, your story—and Lily’s session was the perfect example of how a little adventure (and a bit of mud!) leads to something truly personal.

Kicking Off with Nature at Two Rivers

We started our session at Two Rivers State Recreation Area in Waterloo, Nebraska. This location is one of my favorites for seniors who love the outdoors—it’s just far enough outside of Omaha to feel like a getaway, but still convenient for an evening session. The golden hour light didn’t disappoint, and as we strolled a quiet stretch of gravel road, the tall grasses came alive with warmth and color.

Lily was in her element here—natural, grounded, and glowing. As we made our way toward a fallen tree by the river, we did hit a few muddy patches and a ton of little frogs (Nebraska spring vibes!), but that just added to the adventure. That rustic riverside setting gave us images that were serene, timeless, and full of heart.

Jeep Goals & Sunset Skies

Next stop: a nearby dirt road, where Lily’s Jeep took center stage. Personal props like this are always welcome in my senior sessions—it’s about capturing who you are right now, and for many teens, their first car or favorite vehicle is a big part of that.

As the sun dropped lower, it gave us this dreamy Nebraska sunset—think wispy clouds and golden-orange skies. The mix of the rugged Jeep, the open road, and Lily’s natural confidence gave off serious road trip energy. These photos turned out bold, colorful, and completely true to her vibe.

Athletic Spirit on the Track

We wrapped up the night where Lily’s put in countless hours of hard work: the Millard West track. As a dedicated track and field athlete, this part of her senior story couldn’t be left out. Even as the daylight slipped away and we dodged sprinklers (always adds a bit of excitement!), Lily brought so much strength and determination to these shots.

I love blending athletic portraits into senior sessions—it gives that extra layer of storytelling. These weren’t just action shots; they were tributes to years of commitment, early mornings, and personal growth.

More Than Just a Portrait Session

One of my favorite parts of working with seniors is seeing their personalities shine. Lily is the kind of young woman who balances grounded calm with adventurous energy. She’s focused, kind, and quietly confident—and all of that came through in every location, every outfit, every smile.

If you’re reading this as a soon-to-be senior or a parent, here’s a little behind-the-scenes scoop on what a senior session with me looks like:

  • Personalized Planning: We’ll hop on a call before booking to talk through your ideas, favorite places, and what you want your portraits to feel like.

  • Flexible Locations: I love working in both rural and urban locations around Omaha, Lincoln, Waterloo, and beyond.

  • Artwork-First Approach: Every session includes a credit toward printed artwork or digital images—because these moments deserve more than just a folder on your phone.

  • A Session Day That’s Actually Fun: No awkward poses or stiff smiles here. We’ll keep it light, relaxed, and even a little muddy if needed!

Senior Portraits That Tell Your Story

Lily’s Class of 2024 senior portraits were more than just a photo shoot—they were a celebration of who she is right now and who she’s becoming. As she gets ready to step into her next chapter, I hope these images always remind her of her roots, her passions, and her resilience.

If you're a Millard West senior, a student in Omaha or Lincoln, or from one of the smaller surrounding communities, I'd love to help you create a senior portrait experience that truly reflects you. Whether that includes your horse, your truck, your favorite trail, or your sport—we’ll make it meaningful.
